Mobile Rouding Service

Overview

In contrast to outpatient (OPD) appointments, where clinicians can easily access patients' health data through computers at their desks, in inpatient (IPD) and emergency room (ER) settings, healthcare professionals care for multiple patients on-the-go between different wards relying only on a paper-based system, or by frequently shuttling between wards and computer stations. This creates fragmented and stagnant information that overburdens healthcare professionals' mental workload, making it challenging for them to deliver prompt and comprehensive assessments for patients.

To address these challenges, Mobile Rounding Service offers a solution. This web app is available on tablet devices, allowing healthcare professionals to carry it with them at all times. It serves as a portable electronic health records system, providing healthcare professionals with seamless access to patients' health data. The app also includes a notepad for them to jot down reminders and decisions, and a tool for them to communicate disease progress with patients. By using Mobile Rounding Service, healthcare professionals can streamline their workflow and improve the quality of care they provide to their patients.

As the only product designer on the team, I was responsible for the end-to-end design process for this product. Within a tight timeframe of just 4 months, I helped the team develop a deep understanding of the contexts, user journeys, and pain points of IPD healthcare professionals by conducting foundational research, and to ensure rapid iteration, I collaborated closely with product managers to structure features using rapid prototyping in a weekly sprint setting, continuously building, testing, and learning with users. Following the successful alpha test, the product was highly recommended by alpha users to their colleagues, which leads to its further expansion into ER setting.
